Beginning of the implementation of the EU project "BusCARD 4.0 IoT"

On the first day of January 2025, the implementation of the EU project BusCARD 4.0 IoT began, for which grants were awarded according to the call "Strengthening Strategic Partnerships for Innovation in the Process of Industrial Transition" published by the Ministry of Regional Development and Funds of the European Union as part of of the Integrated Territorial Program 2021 – 2027. The call co-finances SPIN consortium projects implemented in priority niches and regional value chains to develop innovative products and/or services.

BusCARD 4.0 IoT is a driver control computer (DCC) development project led by PENTA in collaboration with partners DS&S, EINEL, SUPERIUS and the Istrian University of Applied Sciences, and is aimed at creating an innovative device that will be integrated into public passenger and freight transport vehicles. This device represents a revolutionary "all-in-one" system that incorporates functionalities that have traditionally been divided into multiple separate devices (computer, card validator and printer) into one single solution. Through the phases of industrial research and experimental development, the project plans to develop 'proof-of-concept' solutions, integrate certified components and implement functional and technical innovations, thereby contributing to increased efficiency and sustainability.

The purpose of the project is to increase the efficiency of public transport by reducing operating costs, such as fuel consumption and waiting times, then improve passenger safety and comfort through integrated monitoring systems and faster service processing, provide a flexible and adaptable system for carriers that will enable better fleet management, and establish cooperation by establishing a consortium to stimulate regional development.

Given the trends in demand for public transport and the challenges faced by operators in the passenger and freight transport sectors, the financing of this project will enable the implementation of innovative technological solutions that will reduce operating costs, improve service quality and reduce the environmental footprint, all in line with EU policies on sustainable development.

The total value of the BusCARD 4.0 IoT project is EUR 984,699.77, while grants are awarded for EUR 584,735.43. The implementation of the project is planned for 24 months (January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2026).
